Higher Air Conditioning Replacement Prices in 2020
All indications are that we may see higher retail price increases in 2020 on new air conditioning replacement systems than previous years due to the final Freon (R-22) phase out. We’re getting calls now from new and existing customers looking for replacement options which is helping them avoid both higher prices and replacement demand next summer.
IMPACT ON OLDER AC UNITS
There is some confusion as to how it’s going to impact older systems. The EPA isn’t requiring you to buy a new air condition system. If you don’t have routine inspections and maintenance done, we recommend you have your air conditioning system inspected. This will give you an idea of what type of service you need or repairs you may be facing soon, so you can plan accordingly. If your cooling system uses Freon, you can still have your system serviced or recharged. But be prepared for sticker shock and at some point, it will become impossible. We don’t know how much it will cost or when it won’t be available because we’re not there yet. We do know at some point you will have no choice but to replace your cooling system.
RETROFITTING OLDER AC SYSTEMS
In some cases, not all, an option may be to retrofit your older system if the coils are compatible with R410A (Puron) refrigerant. Something that we can only determine in an inspection. In most cases, this solution can be expensive. When you consider the cost, and the age of your air conditioner, a system replacement may end up being more cost effective in the long run.
Most people are opting for a high efficiency replacement system, not a retrofit, helping them save on their monthly energy bills. We do know that next summer some homeowners will have no choice but to replace older AC Systems which could result in a longer wait on installations because of the demand.
Now is a great time to take advantage of year- end rebates on our Forever System with a Lifetime Warranty. It’s the last air conditioner you’ll ever need to buy.
If you have any questions, we’d be happy to provide you with any information you need and help you find the solution that best fits your needs.
